Iranian intelligence official visits Lebanon

Beirut - A senior Iranian intelligence officer arrived in Lebanon the week of Dec. 9, and Imad Mughniyah , Hezbollah official in charge of foreign operations accompanied the officer to his meetings there, Stratfor sources said Dec. 16.
The two have held continuous talks with Hezbollah foreign operations officers in meetings attended by Hezbollah security chief Wafiq Safa. They later traveled to the town of Nabi Sheit in the northern Biqaa, then met with Syrian intelligence officers led by Brig. Gen. Ali Diab in Hezbollah training grounds in Shara near the border village of Janta.
Imad Mugniyah, a senior member of the Hezbollah militant organization has been living in Tehran . Sometimes described as a "master terrorist", Mugniyah has been implicated in the 1983 bombings of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut , and U.S. Marine and French peacekeeping barracks, which killed over 350, as well as the 1992 bombings of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires . He was also linked to numerous kidnappings of Westerners in Beirut through the 1980s, most notably that of Terry Anderson. Some of these individuals were later killed such as U.S. Army Col William Francis Buckley.

I landed with the 2nd Marines in '58. I never saw bikini-clad women on the beach near the airport as has been reported.Dickie Chapelle went on more than one patrol with us. We were stoned as we psassed through a Muslim village and it took a lot of control to keep from firing at them ; but, orders were orders. Every one had disintary for many months and they continued to fire over our camp every night. The reports of our losses were understated. Because of the sniper activity, my job was to transport the chaplain to pray over or give "Last Rights" to the fallen soldiers. Today, July 15th, is the 50th year since we were ordered by President Eisenhower to go in and initially secure the airport which we did. From there, we went accross the desert and thanks to Colonel Harry Hadd avoided starting a war with the Lebanese army. After living in the dump between warehouses by the docks. We were then ordered to procede to the mountains above Beirut. ( This was the area where we sustained continuous fire at night and went on night patrols. When we were releived, I remember moving up my vehicle by inches to load aboard ship. I was so sick that each time we stopped I would exit my vehicle, open a cot and try to rest for a few minites.
